Behind all the buzz and hype around Blockchain technologies, cryptocurrencies, and Initial Coin Offerings (ICO) lies a technological gem that is poised to revolutionize the way identify information is managed: self-sovereign identity (SSI).

SSI is a new identity management architecture backed by blockchain technology that provides users with the maximum level of control and privacy while at the same time eliminating many of the most irritating hassles of today’s username-and-password-based login systems.

This session will start with an introduction to the topic, covering the overall concept, benefits, and use cases, as well as the various standards upon which SSI depends. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion on what is called the “Trust over IP Stack”—a four layer technology and policy model for implementing interoperable SSI infrastructure worldwide. This discussion will touch on many key questions about the evolution of SSI and how it will enable MyData, including the business, legal, technical, and social dimensions.

Presentations in this session:

  • Towards Self-Sovereign Identity by Arnaud Le Hors
  • The OpenSSI Project by Drummond Reed
