This session will feature a panel discussion touching on the following bleeding edge issues in personal and health data today:

  • How granular is the data collected and stored by commercial genealogy databases?
  • How many DNA profiles are already on file with commercial (direct-to-consumer) databases like 23andMe, AncestryDNA, and others?
  • What legal protections are available in the US, UK, Europe, or elsewhere that acknowledge the privacy interests of genetic (but perhaps unknown) relatives of an individual who shares the person’s DNA profile?
  • How can facial recognition technology be used to identify a person – and possibly that person’s relatives?
  • Can a person’s DNA profile be used to construct an image of what that person might look like at a particular point in time?
